How to make Lego Figure Push Pins

Bring a playful twist to your workspace with LEGO minifigure pushpins! Perfect for LEGO lovers and creative minds, our guide shows you how to make these fun and functional office accessories.

Last week, when making a frame out of old toys, I thought it would be great to make some push pins out of the old LEGO minifigure. These LEGO minifigure push pins fit the frame well. We liked these push pins so much that we decided to make more for other projects.

Who said office supplies have to be dull? Let’s turn the mundane into the extraordinary with a splash of fun from LEGO! Imagine your noticeboard coming alive with colour and character, all thanks to some adorable LEGO minifigure push pins. This DIY project is not just a creative way to brighten up your workspace or home; it’s a journey back to childhood memories with a practical twist. Whether you’re a LEGO enthusiast, looking for a quirky gift idea, or want to add a personal touch to your space, these LEGO minifigure push pins are a perfect craft.

Not only do LEGO minifigure push pins look fun, but they also have an added special feature: their hands act like clasps. These hands are great for grasping thin wires and string. They can be twisted into different positions, and the arms can be moved. With this feature, we could use them to decorate a wall with electro-luminescent (EL) wire.

Materials needed

Firstly, glue the tops of the flat-head drawing pins to the middle of the backs of the Lego figures and leave to dry, preferably overnight.

Once the glue has dried, spray paint your figures. I used two colours for my pins: one lot in yellow and another in teal. You’ll have to spray the front of the figures first, and then when they are dry, turn them over and spray paint the backs. Your pins are now ready to use—dead simple!

LEGO Minifigure Push Pins to Make Luminescent Wall Art

Over the summer, we’ve been revamping my son’s room with a cactus theme, and as part of the decoration, we decided to create some luminescent wall art.

This turned out to be simple to do. First, I bought 3 metres of green neon 3.2mm thick EL wire. EL wire is relatively cheap and available in several different lengths and colours.

It’s basically a plastic-coated copper wire that glows when plugged in, like a skinny neon light. It’s also really flexible, and you can manipulate it into any shape, but you do need something to hold it in that shape.

In keeping with the cactus theme, we used the LEGO push pins to hold the EL wire as a cactus on the wall. They were perfect for this, as their hands gripped the wire nicely. The LEGO push pins can also be rotated at different angles, and the arms of the figures can be manipulated, making it easy to position the EL wire on the wall in any way you want.

My son loves his illuminated cactus decoration and is considering installing another EL wire decoration in his room. This cool wire comes in many colours and lengths, so endless possibilities exist. I think we’ll buy some more wire shortly and have some illuminated decorations around the house just in time for Christmas.

And there you go—making your pinboard fun and lively with LEGO Minifigure push pins is that easy! They’re not just for holding up notes; they add a bit of joy and colour to your day. Whether for yourself or a creative gift for someone else, these push pins will surely make anyone smile.
